Those wily Germans have thought of every rationale to encourage drinking. This is a "tapestry" stein marked with the Mettlach logo and mold number 1646 and dated 1885.
Staub macht Durst und da der Mensch aus Staub gemacht, so mag er trinken Tag und Nacht	Dust makes thirst and since humans are made of dust, we should drink day and night.
